Lower Level Material


There are seven levels with in the lower belt system.  Each rank focuses on building new skills and experience in each of the following categories so when entering into the Intermediate level of training students have a very well rounded understanding of each;

Stances – leg conditioning, rooting, endurance and power.

Strikes – technique, timing, distance and power.

Kicks – technique, timing, distance and power.

Take Downs – throws and sweeps.

Footwork – stepping patterns, theory and strategy.

Defense – hard to soft defenses.

Tan Tui – springy leg training for agility, stamina and power.

Fighting Combos – coordination, strategy, theory and speed.

Focus Mitt Drills – timing, accuracy, technique, rhythm and reaction.

Chin Na – holds and escapes.

One Step Reactions – theory, strategy, timing and accuracy.

Two Person Short Forms – understanding of real life application, coordinating with a partner.

Tai Chi basics – beginning fundamentals and exercises.

BaGua basics – beginning fundamentals and exercises.

Yoga – internal meditation, body strength and flexibility, breath training and coordination.

Long Forms (Tou Lu)- mental training, endurance, coordination, conditioning and spirit.

Weapons – extension of martial spirit to weapon, power and conditioning.

Sparring – understanding of material put to practical use.

Common Knowledge of Vital Targets – naturally weak areas of body vulnerable to strikes.

Time and repetition are of essential importance.  “Practice, practice, practice!”  A practitioner needs to develop skill in each of these categories to be a well rounded proficient fighter.
